One of Europe's oldest and most prestigious art schools, with a heritage shaped by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. GSA's architecture and fine art programmes are internationally recognised. The school is small, studio-based and intensely creative. The iconic Mackintosh Building is being restored after two fires, and the school operates from the Stow Building and the Reid Building while work continues.

Who is GSA best for?

GSA is one of Europe’s most prestigious art schools and the obvious choice for the most ambitious art and design students. Selection is portfolio-based — Highers are a baseline rather than the deciding factor. The Mackintosh heritage, the studio-based teaching, and the Glasgow creative scene combine into something genuinely hard to replicate elsewhere. Architecture is exceptionally strong and competitive. The downside: GSA is very small, the building situation is still mid-restoration after two Mackintosh Building fires, and graduate income paths are unpredictable (though the network is excellent). If your child is serious about a creative career, this is a top-tier choice.
